Staying active, connected and engaged is an important part of life at Barnes Lodge. Our varied activities programme is shaped around residents’ interests and abilities, with opportunities to enjoy favourite hobbies, discover something new, spend time with others and continue doing the things they love.
Day Trips
We offer day trips for residents to explore the local area and exciting attractions in the community. Day trips allow residents to stay connected, see new sights and have unique experiences. Trips can include historic landmarks, beaches and countryside areas.
Entertainment
We provide a daily activities programme where residents enjoy ongoing entertainment and learn new skills, such as gardening, art, music, games or socialising.
Gardening
Our garden at Barnes Lodge is a beautiful environment for residents to sit and relax. Residents can plant or care for the shrubbery and plants in our garden, providing independence and the opportunity to be outside in nature.
Music & Dance
Music adds joy to daily life in Barnes Lodge. We provide music and dance across the care home with classes, connecting residents with the power music and dance can bring.
Board Games
Residents can socialise through our array of board games, from solo games to duos and group board games. These games are available 24/7, allowing residents to spark joy whenever they please.
Arts & Crafts
At Barnes Lodge, residents can channel their creativity with arts and crafts. We offer classes as part of the daily programme, or residents can enjoy arts and crafts independently, such as painting, drawing, sewing or crafting.

We have received such a generous donation from the lovely Claire from Bubbly Books ! 👩🎨🎨
Claire is an independent award-winning Usborne Partner who raises funds to provide brain booster packs to facilities that provide dementia care.
She very kindly donated these to Barnes Lodge as part of her scheme and we are so grateful! We can’t wait to use these with our residents 😊

SUMMER FETE SUCCESS! 😎🍦
Thank you so, so much to everyone who came yesterday, the overwhelming love and support we received was something we could never have imagined! The amount of people who showed up (some who have never visited Barnes lodge before), was incredible. Our residents said that everyone who came showed them nothing but kindness and that they had the best time, so for that alone, thank you 🥰
To Vince, who put on such an incredible performance, thank you so so much!
To Julian (ice cream van) thank you so much for providing such lovely refreshments in the very warm weather!
To Tash, Fran, Billie, Jack, Hannah, Terry, Abby and Tierion who helped on stalls, thank you to each and every one of you, we couldn’t have done this without you 🥰
And of course, to our staff, whether you were on shift or off shift, your help and support yesterday was incredible. Thank you thank you thank you ❤️
And to everyone who donated food, drinks, all of the donations for the stalls and raffle, who brought anything yesterday and supported us, we can’t thank you enough, we couldn’t have done it without all of your kindness! 😊
We raised just over £500 yesterday (exact total to be counted and verified), which is more than we could have ever imagined, this money will be going to the residents and will make a huge difference!

Unfortunately our good friend Mel has had to cancel due to illness but Vince will be now starting from 14:30!

Hello everyone!
Just a friendly reminder that our summer fete is being held next weekend! We can’t wait to see you all there! 😊
We will be having live music from our friends Vince Cox and Melanie Dunhill throughout! 🎤
We will also be having an ice cream van, food and drink will be available, there will be a range of stalls, and of course, our raffle being held at around 4pm! 🍰🥤
We also want to thank everyone who have very kindly given us so many beautiful donations for our fete, none of this would have been possible without you all! 🎁

A little insight into our week so far here at Barnes lodge 📸
On Monday morning we were joined by our good friends at Nexus School! Our residents loved chatting about their lives and asking the students questions while playing games and getting creative with some arts and crafts 🎨
Yesterday we had our church service with St Stephen’s church (there will be a separate post for this 👀🎤 so stay tuned!)
Then today, we started off the day with Bingo and then we took a quick trip to the shops to get some plants for our garden 🪴 before residents got competitive with some games this afternoon 🎲
And of course, our residents are nervously awaiting the first England match of the World Cup, come on England! ⚽️🏴
