On the 11th January 2023, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited Chaucer House care home in Canterbury, for a routine inspection.
The inspection was focused around the five key lines of enquiry; safety, effectiveness, caring, responsive and well-led and after the two-day inspection, all five domains were rated as Good by CQC inspectors, rating the home as Good overall.
Stuart Cross, Managing Director at Avante Care & Support said, ‘This excellent result follows a lot of hard work in the home as staff have pulled together to ensure that the quality of care we deliver is the best it can be. When I visit Chaucer House the commitment to the residents and the home is clearly seen and this good work has now been recognised and rewarded’.
Staff at Chaucer House, work to create a welcoming, vibrant atmosphere and put the health and wellbeing of the residents at the heart of everything they do. The team of qualified and attentive staff focus on the individual needs of the residents who provide residential, nursing and dementia care for 60 residents.
The recent inspection underlines the compassionate and kind care provided at Chaucer House, with families commenting on the care provided to their loved one and how they feel their loved one is safe.
One family member said, ‘The staffing level is high, and they are very observant’, staff are busy but have the time to chat with me and mum.
Another comment detailed, ‘The staff have been brilliant, they work very well as a team’.
When inspectors were observing the effectiveness of the service, one family member commented ‘They always make a point of discussing what’s best for mum. She has ‘go away days’ when she won’t even eat anything. Then there are ‘good days’ when staff can wash and dress her. The staff understand this and always respect her wishes’.
