Gold Award for Pilgrims View Care Home
Avante Care & Support's care home, Pilgrims View in Snodland, has recently been revalidated by Eden Alternative assessors and granted a Gold award status.
The assessment evaluated and measured Pilgrims Views care delivery and philosophy, which is based on the Eden Alternative. All Avante Care staff are trained to understand and deliver this philosophy in their work with those Avante cares for and supports.
The revalidation of Pilgrims View looked at evidence against the 3 Key Principles of reducing loneliness, helplessness and boredom; the 7 Domains of Wellbeing (Identity, Growth, Security, Connectedness, Autonomy, Meaning and Joy); and the three Eden transformational changes: Personal; Environmental and Organisational, as well as the 10 Eden Principles overall.
Personal Transformation was assessed regarding staff understanding. Organisational Culture was assessed in relation to how Eden flows through policies and practice within the organisation from the bottom up, and how transformational the leadership was seen to be in accordance with Eden Principles.
Home Manager, Jo Hartnup said in the report, “Pilgrim’s View has a very natural free flow layout which residents and relatives love. This gives everyone the freedom of movement to go where they would like within all areas. This allows utilisation of space more effectively for activities, parties, entertainers etc., it also helps promote a ‘homely feel’. New residents comment on how much like home it feels when they enter.
There is always a member of the team around to help and assist the residents living at Pilgrim’s View, whether this is the smallest task of helping to put a pair of socks on or helping them to go out into the community. Team members are always chatting with the residents and their loved ones or assisting the residents to get involved in activities. I am so proud of the team for achieving Gold Eden accreditation. It’s a testament to their dedication and the fantastic work that takes place here at Pilgrims View”.
Residents said when asked if they felt that their individuality is respected; -
“The bedroom is lovely. What I need I have around me, I don't need many things”
“I have my cat with me and all what I need”
“Yes. I love it. I love the people”, and all who were interviewed on the day agreed.
Team members said when asked if they felt the home was homely said-
“This is my first home, and I feel it is the best. I can see me staying here later in life! I get a lot of support. We are all so close, and we are all friends. If there are any problems, we speak about them and sort things out. It is nice”.
The report recognises Pilgrim’s View has good local connections. Sometimes members of the public will visit the home with donations of flowers/games/DVD’s for the residents to enjoy. Local and surrounding communities are also very good at supporting the home with prizes for their raffles which helps bring funds into the home, so they can provide more outings or in house activities/ entertainers for the residents. Every Thursday during term-time the local nursey visits with the children where they visit and meet the residents. This includes singing to the residents and over Christmas they sang carols with the residents too.
Margot Whittaker, Eden Validator, summarised the report with: “It was a pleasure to meet with people living and working at Pilgrim’s View. Families spoke positively about the team's impact on their loved one and were appreciative of this. This has to be commended and demonstrates the level of care and support provided, as well as a feeling of connectedness. The evidence presented enables Pilgrim’s View to be awarded a higher award status than at their last validation and it is expected that Eden training will be more forthcoming to support further progress on their Eden journey. As a result of this validation, the Home has been granted GOLD award status. Many congratulations to the whole team on this excellent outcome. ... See MoreSee Less
