Avante Care & Support

Avante’s Philosophy of Care – The Eden Alternative

In order to ensure residents have the best positive experience at Northbourne Court, Avante’s Philosophy of Care, The Eden Alternative, is at the core of everything. The negative states of loneliness, helplessness and boredom can have a significant effect on residents and the Philosophy enables staff to develop their role to ensure residents are given the companionship, feeling of self-worth and continued interests for them to have a positive lifestyle.

Activities

During COVID restrictions, residents at Northbourne Court were kept busy and entertained not only by our Activities Team but by all staff, who worked hard at keeping their spirits up, particularly during the time they were not able to have visits from their loved ones. We are all looking forward now to welcoming outside entertainers in the home; which was evident from the success of the Valentine’s dance held on Saturday 13th February.

Dementia Environment

Northbourne Court is divided into small units of 15 residents, this means the dining areas and comfortable sitting rooms although spacious enough for unencumbered movement, provide a cosy ‘family’ unit, with a central focus point for collective entertainment in the Piazza area on the first floor and the café bar on the ground floor.

On each unit there are also small ‘break out’ areas where residents can meet with their family and friends or have to some quiet time when they need it, as well as being able to return to their own private room when they wish.

The beautiful garden areas are safe and secure whilst offering the maximum freedom, with raised beds and multiple resting areas.

Dining

Each unit has its own dining area, with kitchen area containing dishwasher, tea and coffee making facilities in order to provide a homely feel. A comfortable, friendly atmosphere will enhance the dining experience and encourage those in our care to have the maximum nutritional and hydration intake in a pleasurable way.
