A message from the Home Manager

I wanted to update you with some changes to our restrictions here at Northbourne Court.

Obviously our priority is still to ensure our residents remain safe and are protected during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Since the 13th March we have not had routine visitors within Northbourne Court.

We feel that the time has come to support reintroducing visitors at Northbourne Court.

There has been a reduction in infection rates in the UK and the local community. There has also been an easing of restrictions by government. For these reasons we have decided to look at a safe and friendly way to welcome back visitors to Northbourne Court.
We need to ensure that these visits do not increase the risk to our residents but we also recognise the importance of companionship and family.

From 8th July 2020 we are going to open up our gardens for structured social distancing visits for those who would like to come and see their loved ones. These visits will take place outdoors in the garden area. Below are some bullet points on the procedure we will follow for these visits. All visits will be by appointment only, book by calling reception on 0208 269 9840.

  • All visits will take place in one of the allocated visiting areas in the garden.
  • All visits will be booked through reception.
  • Visitors will have a maximum of 1 visits per week and a maximum of 4 people per visiting area including resident.
  • Visiting slots will be 50 mins long.
  • Each visiting area will be disinfected after each visit.
  • All visitors will report to reception and ensure proper handwashing procedures are followed.
  • Visitors will have their temperature taken before each visit.
  • Visitors will complete a disclaimer at each visit.
  • Should visitors request tea or coffee this will be given in take away cups
  • Visitors to adhere to social distancing guidance at all times

This is new to us all so there may be some additional teething problems. Your patience as we work through these issues is very much appreciated. These will be outside visits so if the weather is poor on the day of your visits we will provide cover but you may want to reschedule. We are looking forward to the day we can start to welcome everyone back into the building at NBC.

We understand looking for care for a loved one during the current COVID19 Pandemic may seem challenging and right now and with the additional worry of not being able to view inside care homes the usual way prior placement or to visit a loved one post placement is an additional concern for many looking for care right now. We are currently working with families who have chosen our care services through this temporary measure ensuring everyone involved feels comfortable and settled in our care.

We have adapted our care homes to protect residents, staff and new admissions against COVID19. We have safe and welcoming isolated areas for the 14 days upon admission for your loved one. Throughout the 14 days these areas will be as comfortable and relaxing as you would hope for your loved one, with one to one care and support and daily treats and scheduled activities throughout their stay, where your loved can be involved as much or as little as they wish,  extras include fresh cut flowers throughout their stay, foot, hair and nail treatments, chocolates, scheduled daily video calls to loved ones, films and popcorn, favourite foods requests, daily newspapers and magazines delivered and more, all provided at no extra cost to you.

Finally, to help show our support through these unprecedented times if your loved one moves into any one of our care homes across Kent, Bexley & Greenwich we would like to offer you the first night free on us.

COVID-19 Checklist for Choosing a Care Home

5 questions for residents, families, friends and carers to ask

Finding the right Care Home can feel overwhelming at any time. The COVID-19 pandemic means that care homes have had to learn to do things differently, like every household in the country. The focus remains to provide high quality care, with residents needs and wellbeing at the centre of everything.

You need to know the extra measures a home has in place so that you can be reassured that the health and wellbeing of the person receiving care is top priority. This short guide is here to help you think about what you need to know and the questions you might ask on your own behalf, or for someone else you are acting for, when thinking about a choice of home during COVID-19.

At Northbourne Court we work to create a welcoming atmosphere in which residents enjoy activities, go on outings and make friends with other residents and staff. At the heart of our home is our Philosophy of Care, the Eden Alternative, where staff encourage social interaction, engagement and work towards the eradication of loneliness and boredom.

24-hour care and support is provided for people living with dementia, where our team of qualified and attentive staff focus on the individual needs of the residents.

The modern design provides well equipped, bright en-suite bedrooms to support person centred care. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms and if they wish, to bring any small items of furniture from home.

Northbourne Court has a beauty salon which is a perfect place for a little pampering and relaxation. Also located at Northbourne Court is The Christie Day Care Centre, providing a safe, bright, relaxing and calm atmosphere for people living with dementia. Other facilities include the Piazza bar and cafe, providing a meeting place to enjoy a drink or a light lunch with family and friends.

Residents can visit the pretty courtyard gardens to while away a peaceful afternoon, or join in with the daily programme of activities. The minibus also gives residents the opportunity for day trips out to one of the many local places of interest.

The home provides a safe, warm and friendly environment with support for daily tasks such as washing, cleaning and laundry. Northbourne Court delivers a respite care service allowing a crucial break for carers, for just a few hours or for several weeks. This offers family carers the chance to go on holiday or simply have some well-earned time off.
