Finding the right care home for a loved one can be a daunting task. At Avante Care & Support we can give you peace of mind that during this challenging time you are choosing a safe, welcoming and caring environment at our care homes.
You may be aware that alongside the necessary measures to protect residents and staff, there is a temporary requirement for all care homes to care for new admissions in isolation, to help with this we have arranged for some additional comforts for all new residents to enjoy, all provided at no extra cost.
At Avante we will ensure that you are able to stay in close contact with scheduled video calls and scheduled visits, and in addition, if your loved one moves into any one of our care homes, we would like to offer you the first night stay free.
COVID-19 Checklist for Choosing a Care Home
5 questions for residents, families, friends and carers to ask
Finding the right Care Home can feel overwhelming at any time. The COVID-19 pandemic means that care homes have had to learn to do things differently, like every household in the country. The focus remains to provide high quality care, with residents needs and wellbeing at the centre of everything. You need to know the extra measures a home has in place so that you can be reassured that the health and wellbeing of the person receiving care is top priority. This short guide is here to help you think about what you need to know and the questions you might ask on your own behalf, or for someone else you are acting for, when thinking about a choice of home during COVID-19.
At Amherst Court we work to create a welcoming atmosphere in which residents enjoy activities, go on outings and make friends with other residents and staff. At the heart of our home is our Philosophy of Care, the Eden Alternative, where we encourage social interaction, engagement and work towards the eradication of loneliness and boredom.
Our home provides 24-hour care and support for people living with dementia, where our team of qualified and attentive staff focus on the individual needs of the residents.
The modern design provides well equipped, bright en-suite bedrooms to support person centred care. The names of the suites follow a nautical theme – Charlotte, Trafalgar, Valiant and Apollo.
Other facilities include the cafe on the ground floor, providing a meeting place to enjoy a drink or a light lunch with family and friends. There is a public computer available for any relatives visiting the home, or residents using it to browse or communicate with loved ones. The beauty salon `Ship Shape´ is situated on the ground floor where you can treat yourself to a new hair style or beauty treatment.
Residents can visit the pretty courtyard garden to while away a peaceful afternoon, or join in with the daily programme of activities throughout the home. The minibus also gives residents the opportunity for day trips out to one of the many local places of interest.
Amherst Court provides a safe, warm and friendly environment with support for daily tasks such as washing, cleaning and laundry.
Amherst Court delivers a respite care service allowing a crucial break for carers, for just a few hours or for several weeks. This offers family carers the chance to go on holiday or simply have some well-earned time off.

Medway Community Healthcare (MCH) provides a wide range of high quality community health services for Medway residents; from health visitors and district nurses to speech and language therapists and out of hours urgent care.
