Blossoming at Chaucer House

Chaucer House care home situated in the heart of the City of Canterbury is a popular care home with the local community and welcomes a number of groups and entertainers to the home on a weekly basis.

The COVID-19 pandemic has meant community engagement for all care homes has become harder to fulfill, and all care homes across the UK in isolation, with only health care professionals able to visit. But to continue to keep residents and staff entertained through this crisis has not been impossible, and certainly not for the team at Chaucer House.

Chaucer House, its residents, and staff joined the Avante family in March. Since joining there have been a number of projects undertaken to complement the current facilities or to improve areas for the residents to benefit. One area that needed some love and attention was the grounds surrounding the home. The gardens were often used by residents but had become a little overgrown and unloved, so when Chaucer Houses’ Maintenance Technician, John Gadd, and the property team were asked to put some life back into the gardens, that’s exactly what they did!

The gardens surrounding Chaucer House have now undergone a makeover including planting new shrubs in pots and raised planters around the grounds, all chosen by the residents. The bushes and topiary that line the border of the home have also been cut back to define a landscaped view for the residents to sit back and take in. With many outdoor events recently taking place during these balmy summer days, including the VE day celebrations, outdoor quizzes, and BBQ’s it is obvious the residents are enjoying their new landscaped surroundings.

Chaucer House is a modern purpose-built nursing and dementia care home located on Littlebourne Road in Canterbury. The home boasts beautiful en-suite bedrooms, large bright lounges, and modern and welcoming dining areas, not forgetting extra facilities for residents to enjoy such as the cinema room and salon.

Last week the cinema room hosted a movie screening of the famous comedy double act Stan and Ollie, the afternoon was filled with laughter, popcorn and plenty of ice cream! We are currently taking admissions at Chaucer House for those that need care. Please call the Home Manager on 01227 671985
