The Big Bake Off at Bridge Haven Care Home
Staff and residents at Bridge Haven care home, situated in the picturesque village of Bridge near Canterbury, held their annual Bake Off last Sunday 25th June. The home which specialises in dementia care through residential care, day care and respite care, has held a bake off event every year for the last four years. Bridge Havens Bake Off has always been a popular event with the residents and their families and this years’ event was no exception to that, with the theme being cheesecakes for entries this year.
The Bake off judging took place within the beautiful landscaped gardens surrounding the home.
Residents, family members and staff all took part with many new faces joining in and supporting the event. There were eleven cheesecakes that needed judging, so with the support from the Landlords of the three local pubs in the village The Plough and Harrow, The White Horse Inn and the Red Lion they kindly gave up their time during their busy Sunday afternoon and judged the cheesecakes. After some careful sampling of each cake, yes that’s right all 11!
The Landlord’s had made their decision, with Caroline Holt crowned the winner, making it her second win at the Bake Off! Well done Caroline you certainly know how to make a good cheesecake!
Once the entries had been judged everyone was able to sample the cheesecakes and decide for themselves which one was their favourite.
The rest of the afternoon saw plenty of music and entertainment.
Julie Westbury, Activities Coordinator said – ‘Sunday was a great event, the residents always enjoy the bake off, it’s one of their favourites. I would like to thank our residents families too for coming along, they are always so supportive to Bridge Haven and the events that take place. Well done Caroline your cheesecake was amazing! And thank you to our judges your support is always gratefully received and finally big thanks to everyone else that took part and supported the event’.
