Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace 2018

On Thursday 7 June residents from Avante Care & Support’s care homes and Home Care service attended the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. The event was held by The Not Forgotten Association (NFA) for ex-servicemen and women.

The event was hosted by HRH The Princess Royal, Patron of the Not Forgotten Association, who welcomed over 2,500 guests from over 120 military organisations to Buckingham Palace for the Garden Party.

The Royal Family has a long-standing association with the charity which was established in 1920, ‘To provide comfort, cheer and entertainment for the wounded ex-servicemen still in hospital as a result of the Great War’. The tradition of providing entertainment for guests continues to this day, with today's guests being able to sample some traditional tea and cake and explore the beautiful Buckingham Palace Garden.

On Wednesday 30th May Avante Care & Support proudly presented the Big Fun Day at Faversham Recreation Ground, welcoming over 1500 visitors that attended throughout the day. The Big Fun Day was made up of various stalls that included Sweet Nostalgia Fudge, GKR Karate, Two Little Bears, Kesson Physiotherapy, Edible Cultures, ‘Toddy and Jo’ and many more.

There were plenty of fantastic activities for families and children on the day, provided by Avante Care & Support, our sponsors and stalls. The team at Avante Care & Support hosted a variety of fete themed stalls within the main marquee, which was generously donated by Kent Events. These included a lucky dip, tombola, wine or water, sweets, drinks, cakes, hook a duck and a raffle, with prizes kindly donated by local businesses and staff.

‘What an amazing day spent at Buckingham Palace! It was such an honour and privilege to escort three of our veterans to the Not Forgotten Associations’ Annual Garden Party. Donald and Ted have been lucky enough to attend previously but for Dick it was his first time and to say he was slightly overwhelmed was an understatement! We stopped off at Greenwich Park before the event to have some refreshments and nibbles whilst enjoying the views. We then went on to the Palace which was like nothing else, from the marquee where we enjoyed afternoon tea, to the countless celebrities we met, who took the time to speak to our veterans about their experiences during their time in service. We can't thank The Not Forgotten Association enough for giving us the opportunity to attend this event. To see the look on Donald, Ted and Dicks’ faces will be a memory I will cherish.'

Staff from Pilgrims View care home said ‘What an amazing day had by all, such a great experience for our residents, a wonderful day

Staff from Parkview care home said, ‘The residents met with the Chelsea Pensioners and many other celebrities.

The band played and the atmosphere was terrific and enjoyed by all’.

The Not Forgotten Association is uniquely privileged to hold a Garden Party annually by kind permission of Her Majesty the Queen. This privilege dates back to the first Royal Patron HRH the Princess Mary who invited 600 seriously wounded for afternoon tea.
