Good CQC Report for Bridge Haven

Bridge Haven care home in Bridge, near Canterbury, owned and managed by Avante Care & Support, has recently been inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and has received a ‘Good’ rating.

Located in Conyngham Lane, Bridge, Bridge Haven provides care and support for those living with dementia.

CQC inspectors gave the home a ‘Good’ rating in all of the five key areas of inspection which assesses whether the service is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

The CQC report states that the people they had spoken with told them they had confidence in the service and felt safe in the home.

Inspectors spoke to residents, relatives, staff members and health and social care professionals. They observed staff with residents, and examined records including the staffing rota, policies, incident and accident records, recruitment and training records, minutes of meetings and audit reports.

One relative’s feedback included, “It's a good home, the staff all know what they are doing, I always receive the support I need."

Other comments included, "The staff don't rush they have a chat too which I look forward to" and “They are quiet, caring and I really feel that they care."

The report went on to say, 'There was a person-centred culture at the service, with care planned around the individual. Staff knew about people's background, their preferences, likes and dislikes and their hopes and goals. Staff spent time with people to get to know them. There were descriptions of what was important to people and how to care for them in their care plan. Staff talked about people's needs in a knowledgeable way and explained how people were given the information they needed in a way they understood so that they could make choices.'

CQC Inspectors spoke with residents about the care they received at Bridge Haven. The report stated staff supported people in a way that they preferred. People responded well to staff and looked comfortable in their company. Staff interacted with people in a way that demonstrated they understood their individual needs and had a good rapport with them.


Staff treated people with kindness and compassion. One person told us that when they were feeling lowStaff always stay to cheer me up and make sure we have a laugh."

CQC inspectors commented: Throughout the inspection we received entirely positive feedback about the quality, nutritional value and choice of food served.

Comments from people included, "I think the choice of food is really jolly good.  "We can request something to be put on the menu and they are usually able to oblige"

The head cook was very passionate about their role and the quality of food they served to people. They were aware of individual dietary needs and how to cater for them, along with people's likes, dislikes and favourites.

At the heart of Bridge Haven is its Philosophy of Care, the Eden Alternative, where the home encourages social interaction, engagement and work towards the eradication of loneliness and boredom. The recent CQC report evidences care staff working to homes philosophy. A good care home should be vibrant, fun and busy just like the lives we would all choose for ourselves when living in our own homes. A great building is an added luxury but it is what goes on inside that matters.
