Riverdale Court care home in Welling provides care and support for those living with dementia. The home has a welcoming atmosphere where residents enjoy activities, go on outings and make friends with other residents and staff. At the heart of Riverdale Court is their Philosophy of Care, the Eden Alternative, where staff encourage social interaction, engagement, and work towards the eradication of loneliness, helplessness and boredom.
As well as their Philosophy, staff continue to work towards their Vision, ‘Communities where everyone has a vibrant and fulfilling life’. The following are perfect examples of how Riverdale Court staff encourage social interaction, engagement and help support residents to have vibrant and fulfilling lives.
Father Christmas visits Riverdale Court – On the 1st December the home held its annual Christmas Fayre which included a visit from Father Christmas, mulled wine and mince pies, a raffle, arts and crafts and plenty of competitions such as Name the Teddy. Vanh Chewter, winner of Miss Divine UK 2018 and also a local GP, opened the event and helped to launch the official opening of the charity shop on the first floor.
Nicolas Kee Mew, Home Manager said, "We were once again very well supported and I am delighted to announce we have raised £571.06 for our resident’s amenity fund."
A boys day out – A few of the gentleman at Riverdale Court had spoken with Annette Kelly, Activities Coordinator about plans for their next trip out and where they would like to go.
Annette Kelly, Activities Co-ordinator said, "It wasn’t supposed to be a boy’s only day out but on this occasion that’s what it became when we took a trip to Ruxley Manor garden centre. The garden centre is a popular choice with residents at the home as there is so much to see and do and also a great place to enjoy a coffee and a slice of cake! We all got into the festive spirit looking at the Christmas decorations, Christmas trees and saw some reindeers too. We finished our trip by having a mince pie in the coffee shop."
Annette Kelly, Activities Co-ordinator said, "A trip to the pub is always a popular choice from the residents at Riverdale Court, the tricky bit for me though is finding a pub we haven’t already been to! This week we visited a pub in Horton Kirby called The Fighting Cocks, recommended by Marie one of our residents, she used to visit there regularly. All four residents enjoyed a three course meal whilst watching the squirrels and chickens running around in the garden. A lovely afternoon was had by all and everyone said they can’t wait for the next pub visit!"
