Amherst Court receives ‘Good’ rating
Amherst Court care home in Chatham, owned and managed by Avante Care & Support, has recently been inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and has been recognised for supporting residents to live vibrant and fulfilling lives, receiving a ‘Good’ rating in the two areas inspected – Safe and Well Led.
Residents at the home commented they received care and support that was personalised to their needs and felt safe living at Amherst Court.
The report positively illustrates the home, the staff and the care provided with comments from residents and their families including:
"We have always been very happy with dad at Amherst Court and how staff care for him, even more so since the pandemic lockdown, where staff have gone above and beyond the call of duty to look after dad and everyone living at the home. While we have not been able to visit dad, I speak to him and the staff regularly and I cannot state how grateful we are to all the staff at Amherst Court”.
Another family member commented "Amherst Court have been brilliant during the pandemic."
Comments from residents in the report include:
"Staff are really lovely to me. I feel looked after. The staff always check with me that it’s okay before they do anything", "The staff are exceptionally good and the registered manager is very approachable.”
Amherst Court is renowned for its busy schedule of daily activities and events with residents which has included weekend caravan holidays away, Ice skating trips and cable car flights across the River Thames.
The pandemic has meant day trips out are on hold but activities within the home have continued as usual and the CQC report records praise from families thanking staff for keeping residents entertained and happy while family members were unable to visit.
Amherst Court was also praised for ensuring family members were kept in contact regularly with loved ones by phone, video calls or email throughout the national lockdown.
The Care Quality Commission inspectors rated the home as ‘Outstanding’ in the key area responsive and ‘Good’ across the other four key areas of inspection which assess whether the service is safe, effective, responsive caring, and well-led.
The published report was based on an inspection on 3 September 2020 by the CQC. Inspectors spoke with two people using the service, five relatives, eight staff; two deputy managers, two senior carers’, two carers, an activity organiser a house keeper and health and social care professionals.
They observed staff with residents, and examined records including the staffing rota, policies, incident and accident records, recruitment and training records, minutes of meetings and audit reports.
