Amherst Court Care Home have been incredible to my grandad
On 13 December Rob Denness and his family will walk 50km in a day, which will end at Amherst Court care home, raising funds to pay for extra special Christmas presents for Amherst Court residents and staff.
Rob’s grandad Paul lives at Amherst Court and is an Olympic silver medallist from the Olympic Games held in Tokyo in 1964, for the Men’s 50 kilometres walk. This is an achievement both Paul and his family are very proud of.
Since the start of the pandemic and the lockdown of care home visits, Rob and his family have praised staff at Amherst Court for their regular contact and updates despite not being able to visit Paul. They said
‘It has given us reassurance that Grandad is in the best care possible during the COVID-19 outbreak despite not being able to visit him. Staff book in regular live video calls for us all and always keep us updated on Grandad’.
Paul has always been an active chap and a keen walker, taking part in the annual Medway Mile walk, but in more recent years there has been a noticeable decline in Paul’s mobility. This year Rob and his family would like to walk for him and for Amherst Court.
Rob comments ‘Amherst Court have been responsible for the care of my Grandad and others who are living with dementia. They have always been so incredible with the opportunities they provide to the residents, especially during this troubling year. My family and I would like to raise funds for residents at the home and to thank staff for everything they have done and continue to do for my grandad and all of the residents at Amherst Court.
Rob and his family will set off on Sunday 13 December at 6 am to walk the 50km challenge joined by a staff member from Amherst Court for the final mile to represent Paul and all of his walking achievements.

Rob and his family have requested the money is spent on extra special Christmas presents for every resident and a gift for every staff member at Amherst Court.
