November 2014 Issue 4
During October, our Board made the decision to proceed with the planned closure of our care home Homeleigh in Bexley.
Homeleigh was built some 40 or more years ago and has been providing good quality care for the people of Erith and the surrounding area. However, the building is now not fit for purpose and being a conventional home rather than a dementia care home, the demand for new placements is diminishing. I therefore met with current service users, and their families, during October to begin planning and identifying placements within other Avante Care and Support schemes, or homes of their choice.
We are also committed to supporting our staff to relocate to other posts within Avante Care and Support. The home closure will leave Avante Care and Support with a continued strong presence in Bexley through our other three homes, all with specialist dementia services.
I am pleased to confirm the appointment of Heather Brimm as our new Regional Care Director. Heather brings extensive and valuable experience in the delivery of dementia care, and she will now manage our Bexley Care Homes with Jane Kinsgmill transferring to manage the Kent portfolio. Jacqui Morris returns to her substantive role leading on quality and compliance and she will be supported in reviewing dementia quality outcomes by Anne Child.
