Staff at Avante Care & Support helped raise awareness on dementia last week by taking part in the Alzheimer’s Society national dementia awareness week. The care & support charity based in Faversham who support over 3000 people, many of whom are living with dementia, hosted a variety of small events during the national awareness week through its residential care homes and Head Office.
Below are just a few of the events that took place across Avante Care & Supports services last week.
Avante Care & Supports Head Office in Faversham provided a coffee morning and quiz which was kindly supported by local bakery Fillers and by Head Office staff who baked cakes and savouries for the day. A big well done to everyone involved and for helping to raise £51.97 on the day.
Barton Court care home, Sheerness, had a busy week of events including a visit to the local golf club, lunch out, a trip to the Criterion Theatre and a visit to the dementia inspired event at the Forum shopping Centre in Sittingbourne. First stop of the week was the morning spent at AGE UK Sheppey, where resident May met up with all of her old friends, whilst Jean enjoyed chatting with new ones.
The Willow Day Care Centre, Sittingbourne, held a strawberry cream tea on Tuesday 19th May where many service users, family members and volunteers enjoyed a scone or two in the sunshine as well as residents from Avante Care & Supports care homes Puddingstone Grange and Amherst Court joining in.
To help raise awareness on dementia, Amherst Court care home Chatham, hosted a dementia friends training session on Friday 22nd May. Seven sessions were held throughout the day where families and staff were invited to take part. Every successful participant was formally recognised as a dementia friend and received a certificate and a dementia friend’s badge – well done to everyone at Amherst Court who took part with this. Puddingstone Grange, Greenwich, took part last week and held a questions and answers session on dementia and coffee morning at the home all in aid of dementia awareness week.
Well done to everyone that took part last week.
