Amherst Court residents celebrate the Chinese New Year

On Monday 8th February Amherst Court residents celebrated the Chinese New Year in style.

Located in Chatham, Medway, Amherst Court care home offers care for older people living with dementia.  CQC inspectors rated the home as ‘Outstanding’ after examining the home’s responsiveness and leadership and a ‘Good’ for safety, caring and effectiveness, setting an overall rating of ‘Outstanding’ for the home.

On Monday 8th February Amherst Court residents celebrated the Chinese New Year in style.

Staff and residents decorated the Calypso Café in the home with Chinese lanterns, dragons and all things colourful, which the homes Chef Judi kindly donated.

Residents from all the floors came down to the Café to join in on the celebrations and enjoy a Chinese meal.  The kitchen had made a hoisin vegetable soup, with vegetable spring rolls and Chinese decorated cupcakes.

“As we all sat and ate, one of our residents called Dot told us how she lived in Singapore for three years as a child, as her father was stationed there. Dot told everyone how the New Year was celebrated in China and how there were parades with hundreds of people lining the streets to see the event.
Once we all finished our meal, each person got to open a fortune cookie, which resident Nancy was very impressed with as her fortune read, ‘she would age gracefully’.”
